5K Walk Info and Registration

The 5K Fun Walk

The 5K Fun Walk has been a part of our event since its inception in 2005.  It will consist of 3 loops around the fairgrounds complex.  The route will be clearly marked and will consist of paved and hard-packed trail sections. It is friendly for both strollers and wagons. You will enjoy the company of hundreds of other walkers, the changing leaves on the trees and signs of encouragement posted along the route.

Many people decide to participate as part of a Walk Team. Forming a team of family, friends, and co-workers is a great way to honor someone you know with autism.

We will honor the two teams that raise the most money with first and second prizes.  The team with the most money will win a Special Needs Pooled Trust with The Arc of Northern Virginia.  The second highest team will win an iPad.  We hope these incentives will further encourage you to form a team to benefit someone you love with autism!

The 5K Fun Walk will start at 11 am, following brief remarks from the Walk Coordinator and others.  On-site registration and check-in for pre-registered walkers will begin at 9 am.

Fundraising

Please consider fundraising for this great cause.  You can establish your own Fundraising page (TEAM page) or you can choose a page to support on the DONATE/Register tab.  Once you DONATE/Register through that page, you can send the link to your social contacts through Facebook, Twitter or email.  All donations go toward ASNV's Intervention Assistance Fund that awards quarterly mini-grants to families to provide reimbursement for therapies and treatments that are not covered by the state or by insurance.  These therapies often help individuals with autism reach their highest potential towards living as independently as possible in adulthood.

It is easy to establish a Fundraising page. 

  1. Click on "CREATE a Fundraising Page" tab on the home page.  You will be directed to email a Page Name, Photo, Goal and a few sentences why you want to raise money for this cause. 
  2. Once you send the email, your page will be created within 24 hours and you will receive a confirmation email with a link to your new Fundraising Page. 
  3. AT THAT TIME go to your page and register for the Walk by clicking on the DONATE/Register tab on YOUR page (or the page of the team you have chosen to support).  Then your registration fee and any additional donation will go towards the goal of that Fundraising page. 
  4. Next you can send your Fundraising page out to all your friends, family, relatives and co-workers via Facebook, Twitter or email to spread the word and help meet your goal.  The more money we raise the more families we can help!  Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Registration

There are three options for registering for the 5K Walk.

You may register either as

  • an individual walker  ($10)
  • a family ($25) - a family consists of parents and children ONLY - extended family must register separately through your fundraising page
  • a virtual walker (no fee) - you choose the donation amount and get to sleep in that day!

The fee for walkers is the same whether you pre-register or register on-site the day of the Walk. Online registration for the Walk will close at midnight Thursday, October 20, 2011. EVERY person participating in the Walk MUST be on the registration form, including infants in strollers.

Whether you register as an Individual or a Family, you may be a part of a Walk Team!  You can choose to create a Team or Fundraising page by clicking on "CREATE a Fundraising Page".  See the Team Captain Kit Link for more information and details about creating a Walk Team.

YOU MUST CREATE YOUR FUNDRAISING/TEAM PAGE BEFORE YOU REGISTER (unless you are supporting another Fundraising/Team page)Please have your credit card information available before starting the registration process.

PLEASE consider donating additional amounts to the registration fee to help reach fundraising goals and to support local families. 

When you register, you will enter ONE total amount that should include your registration fee.
