Commemorative Signs

Recognize a friend or loved one on the spectrum! $100 will honor your loved one on a commemorative sign. The sign can include photos and words of encouragement for them or a special message about them from you. All signs will have the ASA-NV & Walk for Autism logos and the date of the walk. 5^th Annual Walk for Autism - Virginia

5K Walk/Run

Though light rain appeared at the Walk, spirits were high, and the 5th annual Walk for Autism – Virginia was another huge success. A total of 660 people ran and walked at the 5K event. See results here. Families affected by autism break through road blocks to care for their loved ones every day, and they demonstrated this ability to overcome weather challenges at the Walk. A huge thank you goes out to all that participated!

Congratulations to the Walk team with the highest number of walkers, Finding Logan with 26 team members. Finding Logan also raised the most money as a team, a whopping $3,075.

The winner of the 5k race was David Pinnick and the second place finisher was Paul Costantini, who ran his first 5K race ever! Paul, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, has been a Walk volunteer for the past 4 years. This year he decided to try the race. To see all of the race details, with winners in each age category click here.

Of the 607 walkers, 287 were aligned with specific Walk teams. It was wonderful to see so many team t-shirts and enthusiasm for those they walked to support.

New this year, Kaydee Puppets gave 2 puppet shows in the Show Barn, and clowns roamed the fairgrounds to wow the kids. Free cuddly monkeys were given to children in the craft area. As usual, the kids enjoyed pumpkin crafts, petting zoo animals, moonbounces, and the children’s train. We thank all of the vendors who exhibited and donated to the Silent Auction at the Resource Fair.

Again we thank all the Walk and Race participants who made our event so special!

We are still accepting donations. Those received by October 31, 2009 will be included in the total amount raised by this year's Walk. Those received after October 31, 2009 will count toward the total for the 2010 Walk for Autism-Virginia. Checks should be made payable to ASA-NV with Walk for Autism-Virginia noted in the memo field.
